Joy Energy— excerpt from Absolute Joy
If we were to catch just one of the sparkles of Joy that the Universe continually rains down on us, we would erupt into such a glory that the whole world would be changed forever. From just one tiny sparkle.
Crying is a great way to release old baggage and heal old wounds. Laughing is a great way to make sure you don’t spend too much time crying.
My Morning Prayer brought me to the word laughter. I let it go, and then I drew a card from my Morning Prayer Card deck, and it was laughter. So, okay. I’m stepping into Laughter today. I looked at the frog on the face of the card with the words, Frog croaks swamp and gunk. There are no frogs outside today. It is 9 degrees Fahrenheit and very cold. The frogs are sleeping. So, where do I get my laughter today? Everywhere.
I wrote about laughter in Beyond Joy, the second book in The Joy Series. I wrote how laughter changes the chemicals in our bodies. It releases cortisone and reduces blood pressure.
Laughter is fun, feels good, and keeps us from taking our lives too seriously. It keeps us in our hearts and helps us to let go of the judgement of our minds. It helps to release stress and keeps us in relaxation. A good belly laugh provides the health benefits of improved blood flow, lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and a more efficient immune system. Laughter is freeing because we let go of control. Laughter can deepen our relationship with ourselves and with others. When we laugh, we make a connection, to ourselves, to others, and to the universe. Laughter brings us to the present moment. God has a sense of humor. There is always a cosmic joke on the horizon. Can’t you hear the frogs laughing? I do.
Laughter Bubbles Up
When I came home from a Life Transformed coaches’ reunion last week, I was so filled with Joy that laughter just kept bubbling out. The next morning John was talking, and he said the word, “canoe.” I heard Knu. And I thought it was so funny, I laughed. A little bit later he said the words, “fishing lure.” The word lure sound so funny. I couldn’t stop laughing. Were the words inherently funny? No. Was he describing an incident that was funny? No. A joke is designed to be funny. It twists the conclusion around so that our minds end up upside down. Our minds find that funny. And then our bodies begin to laugh.
Laughing uncontrollably and ending up on the floor, we say LOL is so good for all of us. Our body, mind, and spirit are all laughing. And we are letting go of control. The energy of Joy makes the laughter bubbles rise up and out like the champagne bubbles in a glass.
Make and Have Fun
We say, “make fun of,” and I use that phrase to describe laughter. We “make fun of” words, phrases, ideas, ourselves, and sometimes groups of people. We are the funniest when we make fun of ourselves. We aren’t meant to take ourselves so seriously. We are meant to have fun, enjoy life, and laugh.
Today I intend to laugh at everything. I take a step. That’s funny I say. And I laugh. Why? Because it feels good. I don’t need any reason. I am making fun. The way a child makes fun.
Why did I choose frogs for the animals on the Laughter card? Because one night when John and I were fishing, we heard the frogs croaking in the lily pads. They were saying Gunk and Swamp. They croaked with very pronounced and extended words of the swaaamp and guuunk that they were sitting in. We thought it was hysterically funny and we laughed the rest of the night. And ever since when we hear frogs saying swamp and gunk, we laugh.
We have a gazebo outside our house and a pond with thousands of frogs. They croak all the time in the spring and the fall. They serenade the opposite sex. And still they say swamp and gunk. We laugh and they laugh with us. The more we laugh, the more they croak swamp and gunk.
They too are making fun of their lives, in their lives. As we should. So, with every step I take, I shall say, Waaaaalk, and when I sit down I shall say, Siiiit. And I shall laugh.
